Saint Julien 1985 Château Ducru Beaucaillou
About Saint Julien
Saint Julien primary focus is on quality and Château Ducru Beaucaillou is a wonderful example of high quality. Château Ducru Beaucaillou started in the 17th century and quickly demonstrated a capacity to produce fine wines. In the 18th century mildew was destroying many of Bordeaux's vineyards but Ducru Beaucaillou managed to escape thanks to the famous bouillie bordelaise (Bordeaux mixture) consisting of copper sulphate and lime, which is still used today. In 1941, Ducru Beaucaillou was bought by Francis Borie, who maintained an exceptional standard of wine. Saint Julien is famous for highly extracted, finely structured, Cabernet-based reds. It is nestled between Pauillac to the north and Margaux to the south.
The Experience
Delightful wine… I savoured every sip! A beautiful earthy wine with an expressive nose featuring classic aromas of cigar. The palate was a resolved mix of dark cherry, currants, mineral, tobacco leaf, cedar and licorice. Without question ★★★★★
